What Are the Benefits of AC Maintenance?

AC maintenance offers a wide variety of benefits for your air conditioner, your home, and your family too. The trick is to keep up with maintenance on a regular schedule so that you are consistently meeting any repair needs that your air conditioner has.

If it’s been a while since you’ve invested in professional maintenance, now it’s a great time to schedule AC service in Collierville, TN. You can also keep reading to learn more about what our team does during an AC maintenance appointment, and why the steps are so important for your air conditioner.

The Professional Difference

There are many things you can do as a homeowner for your AC – from changing your air filters regularly to checking the outside portion of the unit and using reasonable thermostat settings for cooling. But any other maintenance tasks should be left to the HVAC pros – that’s us. Making tweaks and repairs to an AC requires the right education and certifications for the job to be done correctly.

We know it’s easy to search online for AC symptoms and try to come up with a DIY solution. But when it comes to a system as intricate as an air conditioner, you don’t want to take any risks. DIY solutions can leave you with bigger (and more expensive) problems. If you’ve never scheduled professional AC maintenance, you may be wondering what our team does and why it’s so important. Here are the highlights:

  • First, we take a general look at your AC and identify any obvious problems that need to be addressed. Then we start looking at individual components in greater detail.
  • We look at the evaporator coils located inside your home and the condenser coils located outside. We look for signs of ice buildup or refrigerant leaks and clean the coils if needed.
  • It’s also important to check the unit’s refrigerant level even if we don’t visually identify any leaks. If refrigerant levels are too low, there is a leak somewhere and we have to identify and repair it, then recharge the refrigerant so it has a full charge for adequate cooling.
  • The next step is to review all of the electrical connections to make sure they are completely secure. Electricity causes heat, and the small wires can expand and contract during AC use until they loosen up from their connections.
  • We also check the condensate drain line and drip pan. If there are any clogs, we can clean out that line to ensure it doesn’t fill up and overflow.
  • It’s also important to check the fan and compressor motors. We will wipe them down, clean away any grime between gears, and relubricate the parts so they can work smoothly. Without enough lubrication, components can grind together and wear down.
  • Your thermostat is another important component to test even though it’s technically separate. It does play a major part in how your AC works. We can check calibration, battery charge, and ensure the thermostat is communicating correctly with your AC to trigger cooling cycles.

Consistent maintenance is the single greatest factor in determining AC lifespan and efficiency. Plan to schedule the service every year for the best chance of getting 15 years or longer out of your air conditioner.
