Heat and Energy Recovery Ventilators in Memphis, TN
Have you wondered where the fresh air has gone in your house? You’re not the only one. Homes have such tight sealing against the outdoors, so energy won’t go to waste that the house have also shut out fresh air. Opening doors and windows does let in fresh air, but it also brings in outdoor temperatures with it as well as humidity. A household can waste immense energy trying to run an AC to cool a home when the windows are wide open on a summer day.
Automatic Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing installs energy recovery and heat recovery ventilators to allow homes to enjoy fresh air without seeing huge spikes in costs or uncomfortable conditions. Call our offices to find out more about these systems. We install the best products at fair prices, and we have 75+ years of history and an A+ rating at the BBB.
Since 1943, it’s been Automatic in Memphis! Contact our team today to schedule indoor air quality services in Memphis, TN and the surrounding area.
What ERV and HRV Systems Do
The heat recovery ventilator (HRV) and energy recover ventilator (ERV) are devices integrated into the ventilation system of a home. They draw fresh outside air into the HVAC system to bring it indoors, but they first pre-cool or pre-heat it (depending on the weather) using the heat energy already present in the house. When an ERV system brings fresh air from outside during a hot day, it runs this current of air through a counter current of cool stale air from inside, which causes the hot air to lose heat to the other current. This is how the ERV recovers the energy already used to cool the air inside the house with the AC and applies it to the incoming fresh air. During cold weather, the process works in reverse.
Although HRV and ERV systems work similarly, there are some difference. ERVs also allow for the transfer of moisture between the counter currents, making them effective at humidity control. HRVs, on the other hand, work better in cooler weather. Many local homes use ERVs, but it is in your best interest to talk to one of our indoor air quality experts to find out which ventilator will work best for you.
