Memphis, TN Ductwork Services
Most residential HVAC systems circulate air throughout a house using a network of ducts made from metal, plastic, and/or ductboard. Because these ducts remain mostly hidden from sight, people take for granted that they’re always in good shape and aren’t harming HVAC system efficiency or air quality. This is rarely the truth—ducts that are clogged with debris or which are losing air to duct leakage are common. Unless these ventilation systems receive duct cleaning services or duct repair, they will have large negative effects on comfort, air quality, and energy efficiency in a home.
Automatic Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing provides a range of services to care for residential ductwork: duct test, duct sealing, duct replacement, and more. All our HVAC service professionals are NATE-certified and committed the exceptional customer service. The Trouble With Duct Leakage
Small holes in the air ducts—what’s the big deal? Plenty! The ducts in a house are designed to create an airtight seal along their length to maintain air pressure. When air starts to escape through the holes, air pressure drops and the cooling and heating system must work harder to make up the difference. Up to 30% of the heated and cooled air in these ducts can escape through the holes, and that’s all money going to waste.
These air leaks have other negative effects. They put extra pressure on the AC and heater, leading to more repair issues and shortened system lives. Humidity will start to rise around the house. Dust and other debris can get into the ducts and then blown out into the home’s air. The sooner you have duct sealing to fix the problem, the better!
Duct Testing and Duct Sealing From Professionals
You can’t fix leaking ducts on your own, so leave that duct tape in the drawer. (Duct tape isn’t useful for ducts, anyway.) The duct repair work you need must come from HVAC service professionals. They’ll come to your house and test the ducts to find out the amount of leakage and how best to fix it. Then they’ll use a range of techniques to seal the leaks, such as mastic sealant and the special Aeroseal process.
In some situations, ducts have suffered such extensive damage or have been so poorly installed that duct replacement is the best option.
Memphis Duct Cleaning Services
Ducts collect dust, dander, lint, and other debris over time, and this causes a restriction on airflow through the ventilation system. The dirtier the ducts, the more pressure on the blower motor to push air along—and that means higher bills. The dusty ducts also lower indoor air quality. You can speak to the team at Automatic Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing to schedule duct cleaning. Like duct sealing, this isn’t a job you can do on your own.
